Maria (Cambero) Guillandeaux
January 18, 1930 — April 8, 2021
On Thursday evening, April 8, 2021 Maria passed away at her home. A godly woman who loved and trusted the Lord throughout her entire life, and served others humbly, generously, and graciously. Always encouraging others to love and obey God.
Predeceased by her husband, Emiliano Guillandeaux, and survived by her children; Jose Julian De La Rocha, Janet (Moses) Gomez, Margie Guillandeaux. She was the 3rd of six siblings: Elsa (deceased), Luz, Rosa (deceased), Rafael (deceased) & Manuel Antonio. She will be missed by her six grandchildren; Tania, Aliccia, Emily, Erik, Benny L., Derek & five great grandchildren; Tabitha, EJ, Isabella, Zachary, & Felix.
Maria was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on January 18, 1930. She was a devout Catholic in her youth until later being baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist church in 1969 in New York City.
At the age of 20, her interest for the health and well-being of others led her to study nursing, later working at clinics and attending elderlies in their home. In November 1952 her firstborn was born in Santo Domingo.
She departed to Puerto Rico in 1963 in search of greater opportunities for progress. In November 1964 she traveled to New York City to further her career and learn English but instead met her husband of 28 years and started a family.
Her unceasing passion for progress brought her to Rochester, New York in 1973 she purchased her first home while working as a room attendant at Holiday Inn-Downtown through May 1990. That same year she and her husband retired to Kissimmee, Florida.
Sadly, Maria lost her husband in 1992 to a tragic fishing accident. She continued to live in Florida as a widow while caring for her mother until her passing in 1999. She returned to Rochester in July 2010 at the age of 80 to be near her daughters.
Maria was known for her faithfulness, thoughtfulness, love and care for those in need, and especially for helping her siblings, nieces and nephews. She was jovial and a peacemaker.
Admired by all, her true passion was to honor God by being a Christian example to others. She enjoyed learning of God and worshipping with her brethren in church.
Her repeated words of counsel were "Love one another and help the needy" and "Love God and obey his 10 commandments".
She will be sadly missed by her family and friends with expectations of meeting her again on Resurrection morning!
Friends may call 4-7pm Thursday April 15, 2021 at First Rochester Hispanic Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 47 Oakman St. Rochester, NY 14605. On Friday morning her divine liturgy will take place at 11 am in the church sanctuary. Interment Riverside Cemetery.
NYS Guidelines are in force. Social distancing, masks and church occupancy maximum is to be respected to attend.
