Martin P. Close
Passed peacefully on June 4, 2020 at the Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center at the age of 70 after a brief illness.
Marty was born October 29, 1949 in Syracuse, New York to Donald F. and Therese M. (LeGault) Close. He graduated from Phoenix High School in 1967. He had a special connection with his grandmother, Leola Close, whom he lived with after high school.
He joined the Air National Guard Reserves in 1968 and served in the 108th Tactical Control Squadron for six years as an administration specialist at the rank of Airman First Class. He originally began his training as a mechanic, but learned that he was color-blind and could not tell the difference in the colors of the wires. That became the beginning of a long-running joke that his favorite color was grey.
Marty moved to Rochester, began working as a meter-reader for RG&E and joined the company softball team. Also on the team was William Brennan, whose daughter Maureen came to watch the games. Marty and Reene were married on June 23, 1973.
Marty was an electrical salesman at Graybar, Kovalsky-Carr and Maynard's. He was a production worker at Valeo and retired from Lasermax.
Marty was an active member of the Boy Scouts for many years and an avid golfer. He loved to complete Sudoku puzzles, tinker and build in his workshop, and research family genealogy. Reene and Marty have spent retirement traveling and sightseeing, including Hawaii, Alaska, Florida, Nashville and many National Parks and Historic Sites along the way.
Marty is predeceased by his parents and his in-laws, William P. and June M. Brennan, for whom he had a deep love and appreciation of their love and support.
Marty is survived by his loving wife Maureen, son Phil and daughter Colleen; sister Paula Close Klonfas; sister-in-law Diane Anderson, brother-in-law Jack (Caroline) Brennan and sister-in-law Kathy (Paul) Conner; many nieces and nephews; dear friends Nancy and Dave Jones, Mark and Janice Minto and Jo and Christine Meleca-Voigt.
