Mary Louise "Mary Lou" Meyer Neary, age 91, peacefully passed away on the evening of Saturday, January 1, 2022 surrounded by family in her hometown of Rochester, NY. Mary Lou joins her husband James Neary, her brother Donald Meyer, and her daughter Kathleen Herrington. She is survived by her remaining children - Kevin and Connie Neary, Jim Neary, Sean Neary, Mary Ellen "Mela" and Mike Kaiser, and Coleen and David Currie - as well as her 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Born March 26, 1930 in Rochester, NY to Irene and Roman Meyer, Mary Lou spent her life living and giving fully of herself as a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and nurse. Known for her kindness, endless generosity, and spunky humor, she touched the lives of her loved ones and all those she met.
Graduate of Nazareth Academy in 1948 and St. Mary's School of Nursing, Mary Lou spent her life as a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital before working and retiring as a school nurse for Greece Central School District. In her spare time, she loved dancing, sewing, crafts, cheering on her favorite sports teams, and occasionally testing her luck on the slot machine. But above all, she cherished spending quality time with her family and friends. Aside from her famous perseverance and grit, Mary Lou cheekily suggested that replacing "an apple a day" with a sundae or a whiskey & ginger was her key to living such a long and full life.
While her presence is dearly missed, her memories are forever cherished and she is now one of her beloved angels for all those she loved. For those who would like to honor her memory, a funeral will be held on Monday, January 10, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Our Mother of Sorrows on Mount Read Blvd. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in her honor.
