Mary Lee Gipson McRay was born October 30, 1928 to the late Alma Harper Gipson and Sylvester Gipson in Ozark, Alabama. At the age of 2 she lost her mother and was raised by her paternal grandparents, Lillie Bell and Sidney Gipson.
She later married Huey McRay and to this union 9 children were born.
In 1968, she relocated to Rochester, NY, where she would remain until she departed this life.
Mary loved life and saw her fair share of trials and tribulations but she never faltered and never let it shake her faith. She never met a stranger and adopted many friends, who would become family along the way. A small, soft spoken woman she loved God, her family and fishing. A great cook she would share her recipes with you as long as you understood measurements like " right smart" and " yea 'bout". She taught all of us the same but the point of each lesson was that she had given you the ingredients and it was up to you to make it your own. She was a true matriarch that watched over her family without fail.
She was predeceased by husband, Huey McRay, daughter Katrina Clark, grandson Tyrone McRay, sisters Lillie Ruth( Willie Fred)Williams, Alline (Sonny) Jackson, Denora Babb and her faithful dog, Princess.
She leaves to carry on her legacy: Huey (Shirleyann) McRay Jr, Rosa( Clint) Hurtt, Diane ( Lynton) Dixon, Debra McRay, Marilyn Simmons, Jimmy McRay Of Poughkeepsie, NY, Delores (Vic) Haynes & Charlene (Phillip) Clark. 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, 1 brother in law, Haywood Babb of Buffalo, NY and a host of family and friends.
Her favorite song was Precious Lord and she walked through life holding his hand. She now rests in his hands eternally??
