Mary Ann progressed from a line person at Bausch & Lomb to administrative assistant in the Federal Government, where she spent 24 years, ending her career in the Social Security Administration.
Upon retiring in 1978, she provided daycare for Mary’s three children David Elam, Kevin Elamand Christine Elam and Anthony’s three children Nicole (Matt), Jim and Matthew, bonds whichremain strong to this day.
She traveled extensively across the USA, and twice to Spain, visiting her children wherever theywere living. In her later years, she liked trips to Binghamton to walk around Boscov’s and other department stores. She also read about lighthouses and visited them.
She was secretary to a veterans’ group of people associated with US Army Air Force bombersduring World War II. When she retired, she volunteered at Genesee Hospital transporting wheel-chair bound patients around the hospital.
Mary was a lover of good food who enjoyed family dinners at her children’s homes. She liked to try out various restaurants with her children and longtime friend Bill. After eating she was often heard to say, “Get me a box and I’ll take some home with me.”
Besides her children and grandchildren, Mary’s passion in life was the rescue of stray and abandoned cats. Seeing an abandoned animal would break her heart and she generously supported Wild Wings in Mendon Ponds Park.
Her children take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Aaron Manor, Fairport for the exceptional care that she received while a resident.
