Mary Patricia Sutton
August 1, 1956 – August 3, 2024
Mary Patricia Sutton, age 68, passed away on August 3rd, 2024. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mary was born on August 1st, 1956, in Ithaca, NY, where she spent her childhood. In 1974, she moved to Rochester, NY, where she worked at Strong Memorial Hospital as a supervisor in Environmental Services for nearly 15 years. Throughout her career, she was known for her bright, infectious smile, hard work, and dedication.
Mary loved to devote her time to seniors in the community, often taking them shopping and providing aid. She also had a deep love for her puppies, who traveled everywhere with her. Where you saw Mary, you saw her “babies.” She also enjoyed going to the casino and racetracks at Batavia Downs. Mary was known for her outspoken and spunky nature—she was very lively and spirited, and everyone knew when Ms. Mary was in the building!
Mary was predeceased by her husband, John Sutton. She is survived by her only daughter, Kellie D. Cruz; her granddaughters, Jah’Nease McCullough and Imani Cruz; her grandson, Samuel (Juni) Cruz Jr.; her sister, Joan Phillips (Ithaca, NY); and her brother, David Phillips (Ithaca, NY). She was also preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Phillips; her brothers, Nantambu Bomani and Louie Phillips. Mary leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews from Ithaca, NY.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, immediately followed by a memorial service for family and friends.
