Rochester: Passed April 14, 2010 at the age of 85. Predeceased by father, Melvin Richard, WWI veteran; mother, Florence Hanna (Platt) Miller, Post Auxiliary; sister, Pearl Irene Miller. He is survived by his wife Frances P. (Shara); sons, Melvin James (Michele), Michael Richard, William Arthur, Melvin Lewis, Dennis David; grandchildren, Angela Kryger, Sarah, Michelle and Michael; great-grandchildren, Stevie, Brandon and Kimberly Rey; sister, Mary Eileen Miller; a niece, Sandra Thomas; nephew, Gregory Myers and family; extended family members and friends.
Melvin was a WWII Army veteran and was called "Radar Eyes" because he could spot the bombs before they came over. He was a member of the Scottsville American Legion Smith Warren Post 367 and worked at Rochester Gear for 25 years.
Family will receive friends 4-6 PM Wednesday at New Comer Funeral Home, 2636 Ridgeway Ave, where a Funeral Service will follow at 6 PM. Donations may be made to American Cancer Association or Visiting Nurse Service Hospice.
