At the age of 69, on April 11, 2020, Our Dear Lord and Savior brought Michael home as a result of contracting COVID-19. He is predeceased by his parents Adrian J. And Carol B. Shannon, aunts and uncles Robert(Pat) Shannon, Eugene Shannon, Elizabeth Shannon, Ann Shannon, "Aunt Cathy" Shannon, Auntie Laura(George)Slayton, Thomas Northup, all of whom meant a great deal to Michael.
Anyone who knew Mike knew his zest for life and people! His stories about adventures with friends, his many travels, many memories of wonderful years with his family, and even just everyday encounters with people, were all filled with detailed enjoyment and laughter. God richly blessed Mike with a unique sense of humor which is his legacy, his claim to fame, deeming him "an unforgettable character!" He lite up a room with his sense of style and warmth. Michael always fun to be around and he knew how to make people laugh! He was quick witted giving everyone and everybody, even strangers in Wegmans, a reason to smile with Irish charm and twinkle in his blue eyes. He was generous and kind often bringing favorite candy bars, special sodas, doughnuts and lottery tickets to his "family" at Cobbs Hill Assisted Living. His mission was to bring a little sunshine to people and help brighten their day with his warm smile. Always thinking of others, he had a loving and forgivable heart, a beautiful soul and a compassion for others. Mike was known as a true and loyal friend.
After working at Kodak for 20 years, he went on to a successful career at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He spent many great years hunting with his dad and fun-loving friends down in South Bristol at the family cabin. He always looked forward to the Red Wings season, the Mets and Minnesota Twins being his favorite baseball teams. He loved watching his children play sports and was very proud of their success and accomplishments as adults.
Michael is survived by his devoted and loving sister, Patrica (Peter) Kirkey, his children Sean(Alicia) and Breanne(Robert) Williams, grandchildren Teagan, Dakota and Landon, Uncle Donald Shannon, favorite and dearly loved nephews Jeff and Jason(Karen) Kirkey, many wonderful cousins, loyal and best friend Ronnie, endearing friends Stephanie, Tom and Mimi, Kirstyn, Amy, and Bob and Sandy from Cobbs Hill Assisted Living, all of whom brought fullness, love, lots of laughs and support to Michael for many years. Much thanks and special thoughts go out to the members of Living Waters Church in Leroy, as well as Hope Lutheran Church, where Mike looked forward to the beautiful services, as well as fellowship, hugs and support. The family would like to thank Dr. Knightingale, the nurses and aides, Ann from Palliative Care of Unit 6-3600 at Strong Memorial Hospital for their dedication, courage, devotion, sensitivity, and kindness shown caring for Michael and the many other COVID victims. May the Lord keep you and your families all safe, healthy and strong. You are all such blessings.
Due to the COVID restrictions, a Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Those wishing can to contribute to the COVID-19 Research or to your local Food Pantry in Michael's name.
As Michael would say: The best things in life are the people we love, the places we've been and the memories we've made
