Norine Antoinette (Cianca) Schaeffer

January 17, 1935 — February 25, 2021

GREECE, NY - Passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 25, 2021, at the age of 86. Predeceased by her parents, Gabriele and Gina 'Jean' (Mancini) Cianca, and husband of 63 years, Robert J. Schaeffer, had unexpectedly passed on December 5, 2019. Survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Robert Brule; her brother, Anthony Cianca of Sauquoit, NY, nieces and cousins.

Norine had been a long-time resident of Gates. She was born and raised on Jay Street in Rochester, NY, and a 1953 Madison High School graduate. In high school, working at the White Linen Company, Norine and other young single women wrote letters to a coworker's son-in-law's brother who was serving in Korea. Apparently, Norine's letters had distinguished hers from the rest for she later married that same soldier on April 21, 1956 in Holy Apostles Church. Over the next 50 years, Norine worked at General Motors, Delco Products Division; at retail department stores, J.M. Fields and Topps; at grocery stores; Star Market and Apple's Fresh Food Market, and Westgate Nursing Home. Norine had been an avid bowler beginning in the early 1950's in leagues at The Avery on Lyell Avenue, and later at Gates Bowl serving as team captain and sergeant-of-arms.

Norine was a devoted daughter of her parents, a long-time caregiver of her father, and a 25+ year breast cancer survivor who lived her life with determination, strength and courage. She was delightful and fun with an engaging personality whose entrance and presence brightened a surrounding. And, there was not a place where she did not come upon someone she knew. Norine will be most remembered for the love of her family. She cherished times with family, and being at 'the cottage' on Canandaigua Lake. Mom will be missed beyond measure.

We can never fully express our heartfelt gratitude to the nursing and support staff at the Wegman Family of Cottages 200, and previously at the Unity Living Center 3300, for their commitment, professionalism, kindness and compassion in Norine's care over the years.

No prior calling hours. A Funeral Mass Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2nd, at Saint Theodore Church, 168 Spencerport Road, in Gates. Entombment will be private at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, kindly consider contributions in Norine's memory to the charity of your choice.
