Norma M. Shannon

February 4, 1931 — December 2, 2024

Rochester New York

Norma M. Shannon, a devoted homemaker and cherished matriarch, left this world peacefully on December 2, 2024, at Crossroads House. Born on February 4, 1931, in Rochester, New York, Norma lived a life abundant in love, laughter, and unforgettable moments shared with her family.

For thirty-five summers extending from April to October, Norma found solace and joy at the family lake house in Inlet, New York. It was here that she created a haven for relaxation and the warm embrace of family gatherings, where dear friends were welcomed with open arms. The lake house bore witness to the growth and milestones of her grandchildren, as they flourished under the watchful and loving gaze of their grandmother. Every memory crafted by the water's edge became a cherished thread woven into the rich tapestry of her family's legacy.

A deeply loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Norma's essence radiated through her relationships. She is survived by her husband of seventy-two years, Robert Shannon, who stood by her side through life's triumphs and tribulations. Norma's nurturing spirit also extended to her children, son Robert Shannon (Mary) and daughter Sharon Bennett (Rustin), who carry forth her values and traditions. She reveled in the joy brought forth by her beloved grandchildren—Kathryn, Christopher, Elizabeth, Peter, Heather, and Sean—as well as her nine great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Norma was an avid reader, finding pleasure and intrigue in the written word, which often enhanced her perspectives on life and inspired her conversations. Her profound dedication to her family and friends, paired with her quick wit and charm, forged connections that will endure beyond her years.

As we reflect upon her remarkable life, we celebrate the proudest of her accomplishments: the time spent enveloped in the warmth of her family and the deep bonds cultivated over more than seven decades of marriage. Norma M. Shannon leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire those she touched throughout her life.

A service for Norma will be held on Saturday, December 28th at 10:30am at the Church of the Epiphany, 3285 Buffalo Rd. Rochester NY.
