Mrs. Odessa C Lybrand departed this life on September 29, 2023. She is survived by her three daughters, Donna, Denise, and Doreen. She also has two remaining brothers named Bishop Larry Brown and Emanual Brown. A great number of nieces and nephews will miss her smile and loving demeaner. Many of her close friends have passed on, but the following must be mentioned: her devoted friend, Ms. Thelma Jacobs, Sidney Bryant, and family member Ms. Eunice Eargle who spoke with her just days before her passing. Her husband, Henry, has been waiting for her in spirit, since February 2021.
Odessa grew up in North Carolina and graduated from North Carolina A&T University where she was a sister of Alpha Kappa Alpha, senior class president, salutatorian, and the May Day Queen. After college she worked at the Irvington House in Hudson, NY where she worked with children who were awaiting placement in New York City. At a friend's wedding she met her future husband Henry. They were married and began a family. They raised three daughters in Mt. Vernon, NY and then in Rochester, NY. She became a social worker at the Rochester Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children and then at Strong Memorial Hospital.
When Odessa wasn't working or raising her children, swas very active in the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church on various committees and being a Deaconess. There she displayed her beautiful soprano voice in the choir. She was also participated as an alumnus in AKA.
Odessa had a few strong loves in her life God, her family, music and her garden. She passed on her faith, music, and devotion to family, and to her daughters. They all played instruments and sang in choirs
In her later years, she and her husband traveled to visit various states and resorts. She lived a full life and had plenty to be grateful for.
These past few years, she stayed closer to home due to health issues. Eventually, her beloved husband passed on and her daughters took care of her. She will be missed by many.
In her own words, she said, "Odessa, it's your time to rest now. We will think of you in silence and after, call your name. Rest in the arms of Jesus."
To God Be The Glory.
