Of Rochester, NY passed suddenly on January 29, 2020 at the age of 65.
Pat is predeceased by her mother, Beverly Townsend. She is survived by her father, Melvin Townsend, Sister, Carol (Stephen) Doyle, Nephew and Niece, Kyle and Megan Doyle, multiple cousins, & numerous dear friends. She was known as Aunt Pat to many. The incredible joy she brought to our lives will be dearly missed.
Pat grew up in the tight-knit community of Pumpkin Hook, where the Townsend family ran the local corner store. After graduating from Victor High School in 1972, Pat pursued her Bachelors of Arts in English from SUNY Potsdam ('75)—followed by her Masters of Science in Education at Syracuse University ('76). She went on to spend the next thirty years as part of the Rochester City School District pursuing her lifelong passion for educating and inspiring youth. Her journey began as a teacher at Franklin High School followed by several years at Jefferson High School. She then became an administrator at Fredrick Douglas Middle School, before finishing her career as the principal of the Children's School of Rochester from 2004-2009. Pat's work impacted innumerable lives for the better and throughout her life she inspired those around her.
After her retirement from the Rochester City School District in 2009, Pat valued spending quality time with family and friends. She was particularly fond of recounting the many adventures of her life and career, in particular her extensive travels around the country and world. Pat was also an avid Syracuse Basketball fan and enjoyed cheering on her alma mater at every opportunity.
Calling hours will be held from 4PM - 7PM followed by a service at 7PM on Wednesday, February 5th, 2020 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 6 Empire Blvd, Rochester, NY.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations to be made to: Hope Hall School, 1612 Buffalo Rd Rochester, NY 14624 or the Rob Brown Memorial Fund, 145 Culver Rd Rochester, NY 14620. Pat lived an incredibly rich life and the family invites all friends, acquaintances, former co-workers, and students to share a story or memory they have of her so they can be collected and shared at a future celebration of life.
