Paul S. Speranza, Sr. age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 8, 2006 after a courageous fight with a long illness. He is predeceased by his parents, Sam and Mary Speranza and his brothers, Joseph and Domenic Speranza. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Rosemary (Patti)Speranza; his children, Maryrose(Robert)Szczerba, and Paul(Cheryl)Speranza, Jr.; his grandchildren, Dr. Robert(Ellen)Szczerba, Annemarie(Gary) Graves, Dr. Sarah Speranza, Martha Speranza, and Lisa(Scott)Eardman; his great-grandchildren, Emily, Jillian and Matthew Graves, and Andrew Szczerba. Also several nieces, nephews,cousins and in-laws.
Paul lived in Rochester nearly his entire life, interrupted only by his service in World WarII with the US Navy bravely fighting in combat in the Mediterranean and North Africa. Upon returning from overseas, Paul opened his own barber shop in the Goodman Plaza which he successfully owned and operated for many years. He was an avid fisherman and had a great sense of humor. He was a unique individual and will be greatly missed.
Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, April 11, from 4-8PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 12 at 10AM in St. Ambrose Church, 25 Empire Blvd. Interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Paul's memory may be made by masses for the repose of his soul, or by contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
