Rochester: Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 at age 78. He is predeceased by his wife, Gail (Taylor); daughter, Janet Hamm; son-in-law, Robert McMahon; brothers, Richard and Thomas Shafer; parents, Justin and Catherine Shafer. He is survived by his sons, Matthew (Teresa) and Andrew (Juliane) Shafer; daughter, Cathy McMahon; grandchildren, Michael Murtagh Jr., Siobhan Murtagh, Jacob Shafer, Jina (Tony) Gonzalez, Jonathan, David Unel and Shannon Enloe; great-granddaughter, Audrina; brother, Peter (Jean) Shafer.
Philip was a member of the Boys Scouts of America, Air Force Veteran and a retiree of Eastman Kodak.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 7th from 1-3 and 6-8 PM at New Comer Funeral Home, 2636 Ridgeway Avenue. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday at 9 AM at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Inurnment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Boys Scouts of America, 474 East Ave., Rochester, Ny 14607.
