Phyllis went to Heaven peacefully on August 4, 2024. She passed away at home after a life well-lived. She was pre-deceased by her dear parents Dale and Elfie Goheen, her sister and brother-in-law Mary and Charles Cobb, her brothers and their wives Fay and Mildred Goheen, Robert and Bea Goheen; and her first husband Thomas B. Hayes, the father of her daughters. Also pre-deceased by her father and mother-in-law Jacob and Ruth Vanderlaan and brother and sister-in-law Stanley and Katherine Vanderlaan.

She leaves her husband Richard, daughters Cynthia Hayes-Low and Marlene Hayes Sheetz (Jake);step-sons Richard Vanderlaan and Gary Vanderlaan (Michelle); grandchildren, Lynsay Diaz (Jovan), Morgan and Jennifer Ziegler, and MacKenzie and Andy Greene; step-grandchildren Shannon and Derek Vanderlaan. Also, great grandchildren Ya’Diselle Ortega, Ciarra Diaz (Nahzear),Christian Diaz (Alijah), JaLeah and Jae’Leana Lucas, Charlotte Greene and Carter Greene who will miss their “Great Gigi”. Phyllis was blessed with four great-great grandchildren Yazdiele, Adriel, Kenzo, and Anais. She is also survived by her dear sister Marjorie Goheen Parker Clark and her family; many much loved Goheen, Hayes and Vanderlaan nieces and nephews, their spouses, children and grandchildren, and her life-long friend Arlene Mawn and family.

Phyllis loved her family and friends and was always happy to play “Skip-bo” for as long as anyone would play. There were always goodies and coffee for family and friends, cards to mark special occasions and phone calls just to keep in touch. Her hugs and kisses will be remembered and missed.

Her early years were spent on the family farm in Holley. As a young girl Phyllis attended the one-room schoolhouse on Route 237 north of Holley. She also attended school in Kendall and graduated from Holley High school. Her career started at Kodak. She continued working at, and retiring from, General Electric (Black and Decker) in Brockport. Phyllis took pride in her baton twirling and majorette skills acquired while she marched in local Fireman’s parades in the 1940’s. She also coached the Holley High school majorettes in the 1960’s.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Phyllis loved flowers, please enjoy some for yourself, or a loved one, and think of her. Contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Thank you for being in Mom’s life.
