Pierrette M. Lepel
Passed away March 24, 2019 at the age of 94. Her husband of 42 years- J.H. Rene Lepel - predeceased her in 1986.
She was a shining star that drew people to her, and her smile let you know how much she enjoyed life. She leaves wonderful memories not only to her family, but to many of their friends as well.
Born in Marseille, France on July 21, 1924 to Constantine and Catherine Macastar. She and her parents were active in the Resistance in France. She retained that strong spirit her whole life. She was the first war bride from Marseille after the liberation of Southern France in 1944 when she married Rene, a handsome US Naval Officer, who nicknamed her Pete.
His enlistment orders took them to many interesting places from Maine to Key West, where she became a US Citizen in 1949. They settled in Rochester after his retirement from the Navy. They continued to travel and went to places like Australia, Thailand, China and Greece, and Pierrette even took a month driving through France after she retired. Through all their adventures, they made many friends which they kept forever.
Pierrette had a business degree and worked at companies like Burroughs and Stromberg Carlson. After a brief period operating a Carvel Ice Cream store in Brockport NY with Rene, she got a job at Ragu Foods. She worked her way up to became Order Entry Manager, a position she retired from after Rene died.
Pierrette loved to socialize and was always attending events. She joined the Brighton Theater Guild, and Spanish Clubs at St. John Fischer and the French Alliance Club at Nazareth and was active in each. Whether it was a Civil Air Patrol ball, a cruise, a New Years Eve in Vienna, or a dance at Mira Lago, she had the perfect outfit. Even in her everyday dress, she was always beautifully put together.
She is survived by her children Alain, Denis (Charlene), Philip (fiancé Jacquie) and Danielle (Stephen Greive) Lepel. She is Grandmother to 8 beautiful grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She spent her final days in the care of Kate Clancy for whom we are all grateful. The compassion and care she received was a great comfort to Pierrette and her family.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 29th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals 2636 Ridgeway Avenue. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 30th at 10:00 AM at St. Monica's Church. Private interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
