Raymond P. Gauthier

January 10, 1942 — March 8, 2023

Raymond P. Gauthier
Rochester, NY

Passed away March 8, 2023, at the age of 81.

Predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years Jeannette D. ("Jeanie") Gauthier, parents Raymond and Mary Gauthier, brother-in-law Albert (Paula) Murray, Sister's in Law Julie (Albert) Walker; Mary RG "Skip" (Lawrence) Robertie, several aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his children Robert R. Gauthier, Donna G. (Donald) Maxwell; grandchildren, Holly, Kayla & Peyton Maxwell; sister Paula Murray and many nieces and nephews.

Ray was born in Fall River, Massachusetts on January 10, 1942. He graduated from De Lasalle High school where he played both football and baseball and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in business administration, from the University of Rhode Island. He relocated to Rochester, NY after graduation, where he and Jean raised their two children Bob and Donna. Ray worked for Eastman Kodak Company for 32 years in Film Planning before becoming a Director of Purchasing for the Ortho Clinical Diagnostics division which was acquired by Johnson & Johnson and where he continued to work for another 10 years until his retirement.

Ray lived an active life and loved sports. He was a bowler, baseball player and golfer, a baseball umpire and a volleyball referee, but while his first love and priority was to his wife and children, coming in at a close second was his love of sailing his boat "Maranatha" and being on the water. A member of Brockport Yacht Club for nearly 5 decades, he held several offices including Commodore. In addition to pleasure sailing, he enjoyed cruising vacations, and racing, even crewing for several Freeman races around Lake Ontario.

In retirement, Ray and Jeanie enjoyed "getting out of Dodge", traveling to Bar Harbor, Maine in the Fall and Myrtle beach in the early Spring, often detouring to Austin, TX, to visit Bob on the way. While in Rochester he looked forward to "Breakfast Tuesdays" with yacht club friends and his "Gray Sailor" golf games.

He was a fiercely proud Grandpa, and a frequent fan and chief cheerleader at his grandchildren's soccer, field hockey, football, lacrosse and hockey games, often giving the referee's the "what's what" for a bad call. He cherished the opportunity to fish with his grandson, teaching his granddaughters to sail and having the grand kids join him and Grandma for Sunday "donut days".

Ray was a handy, do-it-yourselfer, who was always happy to lend a hand. To the end, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and a loyal and reliable friend and neighbor.

In lieu of flowers, Bob and Donna ask that you please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice in Ray's honor.
