Gates, N.Y. Passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 28, 2021 in his home with Rose, his beloved, devoted wife, and loving family by his side. Raymond was born in September, 1939 in Rochester, NY to Connie and Dick Montagne. Ray was an ambitious saver. As a young man he worked hard and saved his pennies, often walking home so he could pocket his bus fare. With a little extra change he would even afford his baby sister, Marilyn, an allowance. In 1960 he met Rose, the love of his life. They married and spent 59 amazing years together. The early years of their marriage Ray and Rose saved for their home where they lived happily for 54 years. Ray worked for the Rochester Telephone Company for a couple years and then went on to be a valued employee and driver for Kolko Paper Company for more than 25 years until he retired in 1997.
Ray was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, whom he served faithfully for more than 30 years. He also was part of the St. Jude's Men's Club and dedicated much time and energy to planning and fundraising for St. Jude's parish. For the past several years Ray and Rose have been members of the Gates-Chili Senior Club enjoying very much the friendship and camaraderie. Ray loved to call Bingo and treat friends to little surprises. With great generosity of the heart he enjoyed nothing more than to make people he loved and cared for feel special.
Ray had many nieces and nephews and several godchildren - all his children at heart. He went to great lengths for them offering words of advice and a helpful hand. He was a hero to them in many ways. Uncle Ray was always finding reasons to take the kids for an ice cream, especially if they had his favorite at Abbott's (pistachio) or to Sea Breeze for the day! Any day was good for the amusement park or a movie which required the necessary popcorn and soda, of course. That was Uncle Ray. He made so many special memories and made everyone feel loved.
Raymond is survived by his beloved wife Rose; sister, Marilyn (Monkelbaan); Marilyn's husband Ed; brothers-in law, John Rudgers and Edward Rudgers as well as many nieces, nephews and godchildren.
He will be missed, every day.
