Reola Kathryn Wood, 87
Went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 6, 2013, at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home, LeRoy, NY. Kay, or Kathryn, as she liked to be known, was born at home in Altus, Oklahoma on August 23, 1925, the daughter of Theo and Opal (Jackson) Vick. She was predeceased by her husband, Hollis Wood; her brothers, Johnny and Jimmy Vick and John and Ira Higginson and sisters, Carrie Vick, Betty Clay and Mona Clayton.
She is survived by her loving and devoted children, Sandra Luce, Hamlin, NY, Jan (Dan) Morse, LeRoy, NY, Trish McKenna, Devon, PA, Tom Garrett, Murray, Utah, Steve Garrett, California, Mike Garrett, Chili, NY, Kathy Stevenson, Churchville, NY, Jim (Denise) Garrett, Linwood, NY, and Matt (Janet) Garrett, Chili, NY; and her sisters, Violet Drase and Darlene (Olin) Hardman, Murray, Utah, and Sammie Upton, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was affectionally know as Gramma to her 24 grandchildren, and GG to her 38 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Growing up during the Great Depression she lived in several states throughout the midwest, learning the value of "making do," and living frugally. She took pleasure in figuring out a way to reuse, recycle, or fix something before spending money to purchase new. It always tickled her to be referred to as the "mother of invention" for her ingenuity.
During World War II she was proudly employed as a riveter in an aircraft factory in California. She retired from General Motors, Rochester Products Division after working there for 18 years. She felt the true measure of her success in life was evidenced through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
During this time of our loss, we would like to thank all the caregivers who gave Mom the care and support in her time of need and also for the endless supply of encouragement and prayers for her and her family.
We would like to encourage everyone to please share a special memory or two of her in her online guest book.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Open Door Baptist Church, 350 Chili Scottsville Road, Churchville, NY on Saturday, June 22nd at 12 Noon. There will be a luncheon to follow at the church. Private Interment.
