Richard "Dick" J. Black Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2024, at his home, with family by his side. He was 82. Born on February 22, 1942, in Rochester, New York, Dick's life was a testament to hard work and dedication, marked by a remarkable 30-year career at Rochester Products. His unwavering work ethic often saw him juggling two jobs, a reflection of his commitment to providing for his family.
A proud Army veteran, Dick embodied the values of service and integrity. His love for his family knew no bounds, and he cherished every moment spent together. One of his favorite places was their cottage on Chaumont Bay in Thousand Islands, where memories were created and laughter echoed through the years.
Dick's passion extended beyond work and into sports, where he found joy in coaching his daughter's soccer team. He loved football Sundays. His spirit of camaraderie and support brought warmth to all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Pamela Black, his high school sweetheart, who stood by him through life's journey. Their love story is a shining example of devotion and partnership. Dick is also survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Richard J. (Sharon) Black, and Mike Black, along with his cherished daughter, Holly Saxe. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren: Matt (Stephanie) Black, Heather Black, Chelsea (Gonzo) Black, Rachel Black, and Hope Saxe. The joy of being a great-grandfather was something Dick treasured deeply, as he welcomed Joseph, Jacob, Julia, Lucy, Jessa, and Olivia into the world.
He is further survived by his brother, Robert (Mary) Black, and a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember his warm heart and generous spirit.
Dick was predeceased by his loving parents, Joseph and Marguerite Black, and his son-in-law, A.J. Saxe.
His family will be present to receive friends and family Wednesday, November 6th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM where a prayer service for Dick will follow at 7:00 PM.
As we celebrate Dick's life, we remember a man who brought immeasurable joy and love to those around him. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of hard work, family devotion, and kindness will forever be a guiding light in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
