On August 28 Richard "Dick" Kievit passed away and is now with the love of his life Suzanne "Mimi" Kievit. Dick is survived by his sister Lydia Banes-Kievit and her wife Judy Banes -Kievit as well as niece Jenny Banes-Kievit, his daughter Kelly McElveney and her husband Sean McElveney, son Richard Kievit and wife Lisha Kievit, also his 6 grandchildren Jared, Brant, Ashlyn, Katelyn, Grady, and Caiden.
Dick was a native of Ridgewood NJ, and entered the Naval Academy out of High School in 1957 as a Vice Presidential appointee. He was the Varsity soccer goalkeeper and beat Army all 3 years. Upon graduation, he was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps as Second Lieutenant. He served 6 years of active duty. He was a rifle platoon commander in the Second Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, NC, and served in Vietnam as an Intelligence Officer. He was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat "V" along with other medals from this tour.
Upon his discharge Dick worked for Xerox for 33 years and held a variety of sales and marketing positions. He received his MBA from the Simon School at the University of Rochester in 1976. He loved golf and served as Locust Hill Country Club President in 2005/2006. He remained involved at the US Naval Academy as a blue and gold officer and as a trustee of the Naval Academy Athletic and Scholarship Foundation starting in 2006.
Internment will be at the Naval Academy Columbarium at a date to be announced later. Additionally there will be a celebration of life in Pittsford, NY.
