Dick was born in Manhattan and raised in Flushing, NY. He studied Mechanical Engineering in a five year program at Cornell University where he was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity. After graduation he went to work for Kodak as a Design Engineer. This was interrupted by a two year stint in the Army. Stationed at Ft. Belvoir, VA, he served as an instructor in the engineering school. He then resumed his work at Kodak in Rochester, retiring in 1988.

Dick’s travels for Kodak took him to Germany, England and France. When the children were in middle school they took a five week camping trip to Paris and throughout Italy. Further travels with Thelma included a safari to Kenya and Tanzania, sailing in Chesapeake Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, cruises to Alaska and along the Mississippi on the Delta Queen.

Sailing was a great love. As a college student Dick was one of a crew of five who sailed a 70 foot sailboat from the US to the Azores. He was a longtime member of the Canandaigua Yacht Club.

Dick also enjoyed skiing and served on the Ski Patrol at Ski Valley in the Bristol Hills. Hiking and birding went hand in hand as two of his favorite pastimes.

Dick was a member and Elder of Third Presbyterian Church. Through the church he was active in civil rights issues through the Friends of Fight organization where he served as treasurer.

Dick lived with Alzheimer’s disease for many years and was cared for by a loving staff at the Jewish Senior Living for the past five years. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dick's memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
