Robert Anthony Sampson was born on February 17, 1994 in Rochester, New York to Bobby L. Sampson and Kimberly A. Douglas Waters. 'Frog' is the nick name he earned as toddler. Instead of crawling, he would leap across the room to get what he wanted. He went from leaping to walking in no time.
He attended pre-school at St. Helen's and was an extremely shy 3 year old. He only spoke to his immediate family members. His brother Douglas frequently translated for him pre-facing the conversation with "my brother can talk, he just doesn't want to". After 12 months, his teacher was so excited that Rob finally said "Hi" to her.
Robert spent this primary years at Walt Disney Elementary School. He was a member of the safety patrol and chorus. As soon has he was tall enough, he learned how to run dogs and walk the woods and began hunting with his Dad. Hunting became his lifelong passion. As his confidence increased, his coyness faded. He could maintain a meaningful thought provoking conversation with anyone he met, frequently described as a boy beyond his years.
He naturally transitioned to Gates-Chili Middle School. During these years he joined Zion Hill MB Church and was baptized in April, 2005. Here, he developed compassion and the spirit of service. He looked forward to helping his mom working with Children's Church and Kidz Kafe. He frequently led the family in prayer and encouraged others by quoting scripture. Whenever faced with uncertainly, he would remind us not worry because "God will make a way".
Rob loved traveling and thrived in the logistics of planning the family itinerary and in selecting the most scenic route. He was determined to visit each of the US states. His trips almost always included an amusement park stop – the higher the rollercoaster, the better. By the time he was 12, he concluded that vacations should be limited to commuting by air. His international travel included Barbados, Canada and Aruba.
At the age of 14, he decided that it was time for him to start earning his own money. He diligently investigated his options and scheduled an interview with Party City. He prepared by role playing and having us ask him "tough" questions. He selected his outfit and told us to just wait in the car. He came back, smiled and announced his start date – he got the job!
Prior to graduating from Gate-Chili High School in June 2012, he was a member of the varsity football and track teams. He was loyal and committed and pushed till victory was won. He continued his matriculation at Tallahassee Community College in Tallahassee, FL where he purchased his first home and refined both his veterinary and culinary skills.
His career took off with his employment with Dave & Buster's. In 2019, he was awarded Founder's Spirit of the Month. He was identified as a 'rising star' and became part of the Training Champion crew for new store openings.
He departed this life on April 18, 2020. Robert is survived by his parents, his brother's Bobby L Sampson Jr., Keith Sampson (Jacksonville, FL), Wesley Kegler Sr., and Douglas Sampson (Gulf Breeze, FL); his sister Lisa Taggart
