Bob has dropped his final anchor, given his last smile and shared his last beer. Born February 10, 1945, Yonkers, NY, where a part of his heart always lay.
Surrounded by family, he went to see our Lord in Heaven peacefully on January 29, 2024 from the effects of Alzheimer's. Predeceased by his parents, Robert Albert, and Elizabeth (Faynor) White, brother Richard White. Survived by his wife, Linda (nee Gerone), son Rick (Caroline) White, their two sons, Ben, and Lucas, sister, Betty Ferraro in California, sister-in-law Muriel White in Yonkers, close cousins Jane and Wally Broege with their children, Mandy, Douglas, and Donald in Long Island and hundreds of caring friends.
Bob went to an all-boys school, Saunders Trades and Technical High School in Yonkers. From there he attended an all-boys college, Drexel Institute of Technology in Philadelphia. He signed up for the Air Force and mentioned often it was a great move. He was assigned to Germany as a weather equipment repairman and said it was the best vacation ever??! He met his first wife, Irene there and had their son, Rick, and eventually the three of them moved back to the states. He earned his degree in Industrial Technology on the GI Bill at Buffalo State College. Bob enjoyed a 30-year career working for Eastman Kodak Company in the Service Marketing area.
Years later he met Linda through a blind date. The rest of their love story is sweet history. They had 25 amazing years together, loving each other, along with their Westies (Kirby and Kaylar) and their cats (Caz and Harley). Bob unconditionally loved all family and friends, and everyone loved Bob (how can you not love a guy who shows up in a Santa suit, in July [in shorts] as a birthday surprise?). His 40-year love for sailing resulted in numerous trips with his sailboat, Stargazer and created many great friends at the Sodus Bay Yacht Club. Bob joined the Yacht Club in 1990 and was a member for 32 years; he served on the Board of Directors for 7 of those years and then his dream job in 2005 and 2006 – Commodore!!
In his retirement years, Bob loved his "fun" job – being a Captain on the Sam Patch tour boat on the Erie Canal. He also loved golf (learned from Linda's dad and he taught him to enjoy an IPA beer!), Rochester, the Arts, dancing, Key West, Jimmy Buffet, watching the Buffalo Bills and finding "Unusual Roadside Attractions" wherever he and Linda often travelled. Benches on Parade, Golf Balls on Parade, local waterfalls – were all part of his activities.
Bob will be missed, and anyone who enjoyed time with this gentle soul realizes they are better off for knowing him. Bob is now "sailing the bluest of waters with the most perfect of winds."
