Robert Glen Wilson, 68, of Rochester passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 4, 2023 under hospice care at Monroe Community Hospital. He was born August 29, 1954 and was predeceased by his parents and his brother. Sadly, Bob was also predeceased by his beloved cockatiel Malo, who was 15 years old and who passed recently while Bob was in the hospital.
Bob was a Vietnam-era veteran, having served in the US Army from 1974 through 1977 as a Combat Engineer stationed in both the Continental US and Hawaii. He was honorably discharged at the rank of SGT (E-5). Bob loved football, especially the NY Giants. He enjoyed fishing, movies and all kinds of candy. Tootsie Rolls and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups were his favorites!
After suffering multiple strokes, Bob regularly participated in activities at the Hickok Center for Brain Injury, an organization that offers social services and treatment assistance in Brighton. Mary Anne Price was his Service Coordinator for many years and provided much oversight and care. In addition, he received excellent care from the Rochester VA Home-Based Primary Care staff, who followed him closely to ensure he remained independent in his own home in the community.
Bob is survived by his son, Mitchell Wilson (Veronica Young), his brother Michael Kolady and his sister Lisa Kolady, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his close friends and caregivers, Joseph and Lauren Hynes and their children, who provided extraordinary care to him for many years and who will miss him immensely. As well as his friend, Shelly Peckham.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Hickok Center for Brain Injury in Bob's memory would be welcome. The address:
2320 Brighton Henrietta Town Line Road, Ste 400 & 500, Rochester, NY 14623
Per Bob's wishes, there will be no viewing. Graveside services at the Western New York National Cemetery in Pembroke at 1254 Indian Falls Road in Corfu on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 11AM.
