Ronald James Hilton passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021 in Rochester, NY.
He was born March 28, 1932 to Helen Radcliffe Milliman and Leslie E. Hilton of Geneva, NY and graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1950.
Ron loved to learn and enjoyed sharing his joy of learning with others as a teacher throughout his life.
Receiving his bachelor's degree from Geneseo in Education and master's degree in English from the University of Arkansas, Ron held many teaching positions culminating in a long and distinguished career as professor and administrator at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
While at RIT, Ron completed a Ph.D. in Adult Education from Syracuse University.
After retiring from RIT, Ron continued to find opportunities to teach, most recently working with students in a writing workshop at Chili Library.
Ron and his beloved wife Sharon celebrated thirty-three years of marriage last year. Both active members of the Episcopal Church throughout their lives, they have embraced and contributed to the community at Christ Church Rochester for over 30 years.
Ron deeply loved his children, Jeanne, Joe, Lynn, Paul, and Wendy, his extended family, and his many friends.
Ron had an infectious enthusiasm and passion for life, particularly for indulging in great books and films, sharing jokes and word puns, spoiling his dogs and cats, and actively following the interests and successes of his grandchildren.
He was a tireless community advocate, serving on many boards over the years, including the Mental Health Association of New York State, East House, and Compeer Rochester, among many others.
Ron was predeceased by his daughter, Jessica "Judy" Hilton (Rome, GA) and brother, Arleigh Hilton and his wife, Arlene (Lakeland, FL). Surviving brothers and sisters include Kenneth T. Milliman and his wife Barbara (Spencerport, NY), Duane Hilton (Rochester, NY), Doris Johnson (Lake Wales, FL) and Beverly Schwartz (Tujunga, CA).
