Rosalind K. Kingsley

April 13, 1929 — September 25, 2023

Rosalind Katz Kingsley, a retired clinical psychologist who led a purpose-driven life, died September 25 at 94 years old.

She was born and raised in Valley City, North Dakota, having survived scarlet fever as a child, before the use of antibiotics. She attended Valley City State College, then transferred to Michigan State University where she graduated in 1952 with a degree in music (piano performance), and taught music in the school system in Long Island after moving to New York.

Roz was a passionate baseball fan, and never forgave the Brooklyn Dodgers for leaving New York, becoming a New York Mets fan in their inaugural year of 1962. Those visiting her in Canandaigua, NY would see her Mets banner flying proudly, regardless of the team's predictable disappointments.

As a single mom, Roz raised two boys and made the gutsy decision to attend graduate school at the age of 47, earning her Masters and Doctoral degrees in psychology from Hofstra University in 1978.

Her career as a psychologist began in Delaware where she opened a solo practice in Milford after serving as a school psychologist for the Milford School District. She was particularly proud of her work with the Delaware State Police for over 10 years beginning in 1986. She administered psychological evaluations for recruits, provided counseling, and taught at the Delaware State Police Academy.

Her colorful career included once being helicoptered into a police-initiated shooting to counsel during the aftermath. She also provided expert witness testimony in numerous trials in Delaware, Vermont, and California.

After she retired, she relocated to Marlboro, Vermont. She auditioned for and was accepted into the famed Blanche Moyse Chorale. A highlight of her time with the chorale was the recorded performance of Bach Mass in B minor.

In addition to music, her diverse interests included quilting, reading, oil painting, and playing bridge. Over the years she was devoted to her numerous Pomeranians, Shi Tzu, Lhasa Apso, and finally her beloved Papillon Abby, who survives her.

To her grandchildren, Roz was "bad-ass Grammy" for her fierce independence and unwavering persistence.
She challenged her keen mind, sharp to the end, with Sudoku, crossword, and jigsaw puzzles. To all who knew her, she was a true friend.

Rosalind is survived by her sons, Jeff and Paul, her daughter-in-law, Kathleen, and her grandchildren, Sarah and Alec.

Those wishing to make a gift in her honor her memory knew she loved helping animals, and favored Happy Tails Animal Shelter
