Roy D. Martin II was born on July 17, 1950 to the late Dr. Kenneth Martin and Laura Coit Martin. At 4 years old Roy’s mother passed away and his father remarried Dorothy Weiler from Guelph, ON. Roy loved his Canadian relatives and shared many wonderful experiences and memories with them.
Roy is predeceased by his parents, his sister, Patricia and his brother, Kevin.
Roy is survived by his sister, Ruth Martin; his sister-in-law, Barbara Martin; a close friend, Karen Lum; a special cousin, Mamie Fitton; his dear Aunt Mary, 4 nieces and nephews; 7 grand nieces and nephews and many other family members and friends.
Roy faced many challenges throughout his life. He found solace and strength in his Christian faith. He maintained a positive attitude and faced his challenges head on. He was very intelligent and had an amazing memory for names, dates and details. He was compassionate, thoughtful, kind and generous. He encouraged others by sending cards, calling them on the phone or visiting them in person. Roy enjoyed reading, playing cards, listening to music, eating out and traveling. When his health deteriorated he enjoyed watching sporting events, game shows, and sitcoms (especially “Friends”).
Roy graduated from McQuaid Jesuit High School in Brighton, NY. He attended the University of St. Michael’s College in Toronto, ON. Roy held a wide variety of jobs throughout his working career. He worked in coal mines, at various restaurants, as a cab driver and most recently as a sales associate for Burlington Coat Factory.
