Roy Edward Young, Jr. "Butch" was born on September 10, 1964 to the union of Roy Edward Young, Sr. and Evelyn Young in Raleigh, North Carolina. Brother Roy was raised in a Christian home and was introduced to Christ at an early age. He attended school in Rochester, New York and went on to be the founder of his own home improvement business known as Roy Young and Sons—"Big or Small We Do It All." In 2015 he joined Open Arms Christian Fellowship Church under the leadership of Pastor Wanda A. Wilson and served as a faithful member where he was elevated to the position of Minister-In-Training.

Darius Melvin. In 2017 Brother Roy married his second wife, Raquel De Ann Young.
Brother Roy faithfully served as a member at Open Arms Christian Fellowship Ministries in the capacity of Minister-In-Training and member of the Men's Ministry. He loved to share the Gospel and it was not uncommon to find him teaching God's Word at places like the House of Mercy. Brother Roy was a devoted servant and a life-long learner. He had the ability to change any atmosphere. Known for his gift of evangelism, it was not unusual for Brother Roy to show up at a church service or bible study with a truck full of people to be a part of the fellowship.
Brother Roy also had a passion for social justice and upon his reentry into the Rochester community he became involved in criminal justice reform. He was a graduate of the
Gamaliel's Leadership Training Program where he was trained to be an advocate working to dismantle racial barriers in the areas of jail and prison . He was a member of the
RocACTS Criminal Justice Task Force where he participated in press conferences for HALT—Humane Alternatives for Long-Term solitary confinement. For two straight years Brother Roy, along with other grass-roots activists, showed up at Rochester City Council's 'Speak To Council' sessions to express his concern about police brutality and support for legislation for a Police Accountability Board for the City of Rochester.

"Miss Me, But Let Me Go"
When I come to the end of the road,
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in gloom-filled rooms,
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little—but not too long,
And not with your head bowed low;
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss me—but let me go.
For this is a journey that we all must take,
And each must go alone.
It's all a part of the Master's plan,
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart,
Go to the friends we know,
And busy your sorrows in doing good deeds.
Miss me—but let me go.
