Ruth D. Jameson

Ruth D. Jameson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on November 24, 2024 in Brighton, NY. Born on March 2, 1930, in Buffalo, NY, Ruth lived a life full of vibrancy, warmth, and dedication to her family and community. She married the love of her life, Phillip Munro Jameson on September 26th, 1953, at St. Mark's Church in Leroy, NY. 

Ruth's educational journey began at Leroy High School, where she graduated in 1949 Throughout her career, she exhibited a strong work ethic, beginning her professional life later than most, starting at the age of 44 with East End Moving and Storage on Emmerson Ave. In addition to her work there, she also sold Avon for many years, making sure to deliver products personally to her loyal customers.

Family was a cornerstone of Ruth's life. She fondly recalled her upbringing, where her family lovingly referred to her as "Honey." Ruth cherished the time spent working at the Square Fair on weekends alongside her family, where they busily prepared and sold pancakes, sausages, hot dogs, and hamburgers, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime.

An individual full of life, Ruth had a deep love for nature and travel. She enjoyed camping trips with her family and church group, providing an opportunity for connection and respite in the great outdoors. She always cherished the trip she took to Alaska with her friend Joyce Traxler, where they flew in a helicopter and walked on a glacier. After the passing of her husband, Ruth enjoyed traveling with dear friend, Barney Batz on many day trips.

Ruth's artistic spirit shone through her numerous hobbies; she found joy in painting, sketching, writing poetry, and glazing pottery. She also had a profound affinity for animals, reflecting her compassionate nature.

Ruth took great pride in her involvement with St. Stephens Church, dedicating many years to work in the soup kitchen. She also was involved in the SWIM program, delivering food to elderly people in need through the church. Her commitment to helping others and nurturing her community showcased her generous spirit and innate desire to make a difference. 

Ruth is survived by her son, Daniel Jameson of Churchville, NY; daughters: Julie (David) Stevens of Fredericksburg, VA, Jill (James) Kessler of Wyoming, NY, and Kathleen (Steve) Argento of Rochester, NY; grandchildren: Kyle (Erica Darcie) Stevens of Reston, VA, and Leah Argento of Rochester, NY; and her cherished great-grandson, Ian Munro Darcie-Stevens.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Munro Jameson; her parents, Earl and Lillian Atkins; and her sister, Bette Moore.

Her legacy of love, family, and community service will be carried on by those who had the privilege of knowing her. Ruth D. Jameson will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for the light she brought into the lives of many.
