Survived by his loving wife of over 60 years; Mirna J. Kelly. Sons; Louis C. Kelly, Sam J Kelly Jr., Edward A. Kelly.
Daughters; Robin Kelly, Caroline Charbonneau, Anamaria (Tara Callan) Kelly, . Many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, dear friends.
Upon graduation from Franklin High School in 1950, Sam enlisted in the US Army and became a member of the 4th Army Boxing Team. In 1952-1953 he was All Army Boxing Champion. He was an Air Police Officer in the Korean War that he was proud of. After being discharged, he became a professional boxer and was an immediate hit in the Chicago area. As a professional, he had a record of 23 wins and 4 losses.
In 1986, he was inducted into the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame. Sam was a retiree of the United States Post Office.
Sam's greatest dedication was to his family. Over the years, he assisted his wife by bringing many of her siblings from the Dominican Republic to the United States. He was a hard worker, and a dedicated father and husband. Upon the death of his daughter, Shirley C. Kelly, he and his wife began the difficult task of raising 4 of their grandchildren; Anamaria Kelly-Lowe, LaJoyce Kelly, Chaz Kelly, Mark Kelly.
Friends may call 10 am -12 pm Tuesday June 15, 2021 at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 6 Empire Blvd. (corner of Culver Rd.) Interment Veteran's Section Riverside Cemetery. Full military honors by the US Army.
