Sheryl L. Hugh, a devoted mother, and grandmother, passed away on September 25,2024, at the age of 65. Born on March 29, 1959, Sheryl dedicated her life to caring for others. With a 25-year career as a nurse, Sheryl demonstrated immense compassion. Sheryl later brought her skills to Greece Athena High School, where she as a career counselor, guiding young minds as they navigated their futures.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Sheryl had a rich and fulfilling personal life. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, embracing her heritage with grace and pride. Known for her amazing culinary skills, Sheryl was a wonderful baker and cook who derived great joy from creating meals and treats for her family and friends. Her talents extended to gardening, where she nurtured her plants with the same love and care she offered her loved ones.
Sheryl was also a devoted family woman. She actively attended her grandchildren's activities, taking immense pride in their achievements. Sheryl's heart was filled with love for her family; she was a fantastic wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt, and friend. Her strong bonds with those around her will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Kenneth Hugh; her son, Chad Gerould; and her daughter, Leah (Steve) Talarico. Sheryl is also survived by her father, David (Fran) Powelczyk; her sister, Teresa Smith; her brother, David "DJ" Powelczyk; and her cherished grandchildren, Katelyn, Erica, and Emily Gerould, and Micah and Brynn Talarico. In addition to her living family, she was preceded in death by her mother, Marjorie Powelczyk; her sister, Heidi Ormsbee; and her daughter-in-law, Nicole Gerould.
Sheryl's legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will continue to inspire and comfort all those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched throughout her life.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funeral Home in Greece, NY on Monday, October 14th from 3 to 6 pm. A Funeral Mass will follow on Tuesday morning 10 am at St. John the Evangelist Church in Greece, NY, we ask adults only in attendance for Mass.
