Irondequoit- Sister Mary Stephania, SSND aka Mary Ann Walczak, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 22, 2020.
Sister Stephania was born in Rochester, NY on February 5, 1932 to the late Charles and Eleanor Walczak. Sister Stephania entered into the School Sisters of Notre Dame in August 1950. She had her first profession on July 24, 1953, her Silver Jubilee on May 1978, her Golden Jubilee on May 2003, and her Diamond Jubilee on May 2013. Sister Stephania served many ministries over her life, including Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, in Camden, NJ, St. Leo's, in Irvington, NJ, and St. Margaret Mary's, Bishop Kearney High School, and Notre Dame Learning Center in Rochester, NY as a teacher. She served as a Campus Minister at Bishop Kearney, and as an Administrator at St. Margaret Mary's.
Sister Stephania is predeceased by her brother, Joseph Louis Walczak.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Jeanne Adams Walczak, her nephews, Steven (Sally), Gary (Sara), and Mark, her nieces, Wendy (Rich) Brockmann, Lynn (Walt) Kowalczuk, and Barbara (John) O'Brien, several great nieces and nephews, The School Sisters of Notre Dame, her Bishop Kearney Family, and her beloved Friend, Sister Lorraine Burns, SSND.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Sister Stephania's name to the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Villa Notre Dame, 345 Belden Hill Road, Wilton CT, 06897, Development Office, or to Notre Dame Learning Center, 71 Parkway, Rochester, NY 14608.
