Sr. Lorraine Burns, SSND

January 11, 2025; survived by her sisters Patricia Burns, Dolores Malinowski, and sister-in-law Frances Burns, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, friends and Sisters in community. Sister Lorraine was an elementary school teacher in Baltimore MD, New Jersey, Connecticut and Liberia, West Africa. Her teaching continued in the Diocese of Rochester at Holy Family and St. Joseph’s Business High School and as principal at St. Boniface and Holy Family Schools. In keeping with the educational tradition of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, she began the Notre Dame Learning Center, a tutoring agency serving children throughout Rochester. 

Funeral Mass is Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 9:30 AM at St. Theodore’s Church (168 Spencerport Road, Rochester, 14606).

The inurnment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery at a later date. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Notre Dame Learning Center, 71 Parkway, Rochester, NY 14608 (www.ndlcenter.org).
