Stan Morey was raised in Owego, NY by his parents Stanley Raymond Morey Sr. and Marian Grace Wurzburger. He also had one sibling, an older brother Richard Carl Morey who preceded him in death. While growing up in Owego, NY he attended Owego Elementary School (grades K-6) where he was awarded the "Best Boy Citizenship" award of his 6th grade graduating class. Later he attended Owego Free Academy (grades 7-9).
At the age of 15 Stan moved with his parents to Rochester, NY where he lived the remainder of his life. He attended Eastridge High School (grades 10-12, graduating class of 1961) where he was active in sports and other activities such as Chess, Stage Crew, Soccer, Swimming, and Tennis. Tennis would become a lifelong passion. Stan continued to actively play tennis well into in his mid-70's.
Following High School, Stan attended the University of Rochester and later graduated from SUNY at Oswego State Teachers' College with a BS in Mathematics. Following graduation, Stan followed in his father's footsteps and became a Math Teacher at Penfield Jr High School. After a short period of time, he decided to make a change in his career and accepted a position as a Computer Programmer at Eastman Kodak working on IBM's new Main Frame Computers where he discovered and applied two of his most gifted talents: computer programming and teaching.
A little more than 3 years later, Stan left Kodak and accepted a new position at Xerox as a Computer Programing Instructor.
While at Xerox, Stan became a top Mainframe expert, designed and wrote their Interactive Voice Response Systems Manager, Employee Benefits System, and developed and taught over 70 different computer courses. Stan spent 28 years of his 32 year professional career at Xerox learning new computer skills in a rapidly changing industry, programming, and teaching others what he learned. Throughout his life Stan was often recognized for his highly effective teaching skills and his ability to simplify and communicate complex ideas.
In 1962 Stan met the woman who would become his lifelong love and eternal companion, Laura Patricia Jacobs. Like Stan, Patricia also attended Eastridge High School and lived just around the corner from Stan's teenage home. Their first date together was in July 1962 when they attended the Hill Cumorah Pageant in Palmyra, NY.
After dating for a few years Stan and Patricia were married on June 5, 1965. Days later, their marriage was sealed for time-and-all-eternity on June 9, 1965 in the Logan Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Stan and Patricia met missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints while on their first date to the Hill Cumorah Pageant. The missionary's personal testimonies and message planted a seed that grew within them both. On Feb 23, 1963 Stan Morey was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Patricia soon followed on March 13, 1963.
Stan's growing faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ would come to shape his core values, life choices, and his inner nature. To know Stan was to experience the goodness of a soul who was constantly trying to become more like his Savior Jesus Christ. That personal quest to become more "Christ like" eventually shaped and molded him in every aspect of his life. He spent countless hours over the decades of his adult life immersed in the scriptures. He had an almost limitless desire to study, ponder, pray, and seek after the eternal truths of the gospel.
An active and faithful member of his church, Stan served in many "callings" (assignments) that helped him to grow and gave him opportunities to serve others. Some of those callings include: Ward Young Mens Secretary, Stake Mission President, Seminary Instructor, Stake Clerk, Stake Executive Secretary, Bishopric Counselor, Stake High Councilor, Stake Young Mens President, Sunday School Teacher, Hill Cumorah Pageant Cast Administrator, and Stake Patriarch (Oct 2007-2020).
One of the cornerstones of Stan's church service was his work in the sacred temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. There he filled various assignments over more than 45 years of active volunteer service including service as a Temple Veil Worker, Temple Ordinance Worker, Temple Baptistry Director, Temple Shift Coordinator, and finally Temple Sealer (2016-2020).
Though solemn and heart felt when sharing his faith and beliefs, he was also a man of great humor. Jovial, boisterous, and fun loving, Stan loved to laugh and make others laugh. His children remember the many family activities, trips, home evening games, cardplaying, family singing, and silly things he would often do to entertain and make his family happy.
As he passes, Stan leaves behind a great number of close friends who have grown to love him for who he was, for the man he was trying to become, his great knowledge of the scriptures and the temple, and his countless acts of service and love. Each share his faith that because of Jesus Christ, death is only a temporary separation. His family's binding ties will continue into the eternities forever sealing him to his dear wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who knew and loved him ever so deeply.
