Steve went to "Horsepower Heaven" on August 18, 2024 at the age of 79.
Predeceased by his parents, Aubrey & Gerry Shideler.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sharon Shideler, daughter, Melissa (Steve) Degnan; granddaughter, Allyson Degnan; grandson, Joshua Degnan; grandweens, Ziggy, Cece, Emi & Remy; brother-in-law, John (Mary) Sherman; several nieces, nephews & cousins.
Although Steve was born in California, he also lived in Wisconsin and Missouri before his family settled in New York. He graduated in the class of 1963 from Liverpool High School in NY and later attended Syracuse University.
In 1966 he was hired by Eastman Kodak as a Tool Maker and retired in 1997 as a Special Machine Supervisor, Elmgrove Division.
From the age of two, Steve had fallen in love with anything involving speed and cars. This love developed into a long racing career, starting with Stock cars on the oval circuits to drag racing. He earned championships in both divisions.
Steve loved the Alexandria Bay Region, having lived in Clayton and on Kring Point.
A Memorial Service for Steve will take place on Saturday, September 7 at the Hilton Baptist Church, 50 Lake Avenue, Hilton, NY 14468.
