Fairport - Went to be with the Lord on January 28, 2024 at the age of 73.
Predeceased by his parents, George & Harriet Kustas; brother, Paul Kustas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Carol Ann Kustas; children, David Kustas, Michael (Julia) Kustas, & Deanna Kustas; grandsons, Dean & Theo Kustas; siblings, Vacelia (George) Sionakidis & James Kustas; sister-in-law, Nancy Kustas; many cousins & dear friends.
Ted Kustas was born and raised in Batavia, NY. He worked throughout his life at his family's restaurant and candy store there, The Palace of Sweets, also known as Kustas Kandies and Restaurant on Main Street (which eventually moved to and expanded inside the mall). Ted attended Batavia High School (Class of '68) where he ran track. He went on to attend Bob Jones University, where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, but transferred to Houghton College (Class of '72) where he played clarinet in the band.
Ted met his wife, Carol, working at his family's restaurant in 1973. They married in 1974 and moved to Rochester, NY where Ted worked for Rochester Products (eventually Delphi Automotive), a division of General Motors, for 36 years until his retirement. Ted and Carol moved to Fairport, NY in 1975 and began attending Perinton Community Church. Ted was a very involved member of the church as a part of the missions board and leader in their boy's brigade youth program. He continued there as a faithful member until a few years ago when he was no longer physically able to attend. Ted and Carol remained in Fairport for 49 years where they raised their three children, David, Michael and Deanna.
Ted was very proud of his Greek heritage and had a deep faith in Jesus Christ. He loved all desserts, which isn't surprising since he's a third-generation chocolatier, and drinking ice-cold Coke though any soda would do in a pinch. Ted had the best laugh-cry combination when something moved him, loved hymns and had the same mustache since he was 19. He enjoyed watching Cleveland Indians baseball and Browns football, no matter how painful it was at times. He had a wonderful smile, laughed often, especially at his own dad jokes, and liked trying to get you to laugh at them too. He will be greatly missed, though his family is rejoicing that he is pain-free and with his Savior in Heaven.
Family will receive friends 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Perinton Community Church, 636 High Street Ext., where his Funeral Service will be held 10:30 am Saturday, February 10, 2024. Interment at Grandview Cemetery, 80 Clinton St., Batavia.
