Thomas Leonard Gorman

June 9, 1933 — April 29, 2021

Gorman-Thomas L. The entire extended Gorman family mourns the passing of Thomas Gorman who died comfortably after a long illness on April 29.

Predeceased, only six months, by his adoring wife of 66 years, Barbara, who he met at the Alpine Cinema in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. He is also predeceased by his brothers Eugene, Robert, and John. He is survived by his brother James, daughters Susan (CJ) Urlaub and Linda (Bob) Rutan; sons; Thomas (Lisa) Gorman and Neal (Dakila) Gorman; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Born in 1933 to Anna and Eugene Gorman, Thomas grew up in Bay Ridge in its heydeys, attended St. Ephrem's, St. Michael's, and Ft. Hamilton HS. He served proudly in the United States Navy and graduated from New York University. He worked as a bank examiner for many years in New York City, throughout New York State, and in London, UK.

He was a giant of a man with the strength of an ox. He physically towered over most, like a full-grown sequoia standing proud in Ellison Park, yet he was gentle, humble, and so stoic he never complained, even in excruciating pain. He was a true renaissance man and a dreamer, full of life and boundless energy to the very end. He had a mind like a calculator, an athletic physique, and creative talents anyone would envy -- from writing, drawing and painting, to woodworking, to playing multiple instruments, even drums. He could do anything, and be anyone, but he just wanted to be a kid in Brooklyn again.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on May 6, 2021, at 10am at St. Joseph's Church, 43 Gebhardt Rd, Penfield, NY 14526. Thomas will be buried with full military honors at Oakwood Cemetery directly after.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Joseph's/Holy Spirit Church, the Chili Lions Club Medical Loan Closet, or to fund a cure for diabetes.
