Passed June 20, 2022 at the age of 86.
Ulysses was born in Americus, GA on March 8, 1936. He attended McCoy Elementary school & graduated from Staley High School in 1952 as an Athletic and Academic All American. Upon which he received an academic scholarship from Albany State University in Albany GA. He remained in school till he was drafted into the United States Army. He served in Tacoma, Washington & Seoul, South Korea. He was Honorably Discharged in 1957. He worked as a golf caddy at Americus Golf Coarse, at Americus slaughterhouse, & delivered the local newspaper in Americus, GA in order to make ends meet for his family. He moved to Rochester, NY for more opportunities to help his families back in Georgia of his adult life, where he worked for Flanagans Furniture Supply, Attica State Prison, Armor Meat Company, & Rochester Welding Supply.
Predeceased by his son, Corey Westbrook; parents, John Mark & Gertrude Johnson Westbrook; siblings, Marie Breedlove, Nina Anderson, Ann M Westbrook, William H. Westbrook, Bertha Davis, & Ada Rivers.
Survived by his children, Dion (Carri) Westbrook & Cynthia (Bernard) Pines; 7 grandchildren; siblings, James Westbrook & Lulu (John) Westbrook Griffin; special friend, Marion Belle & many nieces, nephews, other family, & friends.
Ulysses was a gifted athlete especially in Football & Baseball. He was community minded he tried to help those around him. He would often do chores that required strength. He taught young men how to play football, baseball, & how to swim. He was an older brother to his family and all the children in the neighborhood, he was known as big brother Mott. He learned to drive at a young age, & often drove an old pickup truck. He was always willing to work to earn money for the family especially after his father passed.
Ulysses received the Lord when he was a teenager which he continued to walk a Christian path his entire adult life.
Ulysses was a very funny man who was full of good advice. He was loved by all who knew him.
Calling hours will be Saturday July 2, 10-11am with services starting at 11am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 6 Empire Blvd.
