Predeceased by his wife, Mary Murphy.
Survived by his sons, James Sr. and Walter Jr. of Rochester, NY. Daughters, Jennie and Sandra of Rochester, NY. 3 grandsons, DEMETRIUS, Blake, James II. Granddaughters, Jeanette (Scott) Bullard, Janice (Snipes). 8 great grandchildren. Brother in law, Cicero (Rebecca) McCrea of Kingstree, SC. Sister in law, Rovenia McCrea of Rochester, NY. In addition a host of nephews and nieces, many cousins. Walter's longtime and best friend, Angela Tucker.
Walter loved his Gospel Group, The B.C. Harmonizers. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and barbecuing.
Walter was born in Kingstree,SC on August 10, 1932 to his parents, Marcus and Margaret Murphy. He attended St. Paul School in Kingstree and St. Paul Methodist Church. Following moving to Rochester, NY, he attended Lady of Americas.
He was the proud owner of Mary's Soul Food Restaurant for over 10 years. He worked also as a construction worker for Frank Dimino Construction Co.
Walter's last job was working at Genesee Recycling Co as a truck driver. Walter loved his family, church and life. He will sadly be missed by so many that knew him.
Family and friends may call 10am-12noon, Thursday February 8, 2024 at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 6 Empire Blvd. (next to Donut's Delight). Funeral service will begin at 12noon following visitation in the chapel of the funeral home.
Interment, Riverside Cemetery.
