Wayne Nichols

G. Wayne Nichols was born on November 16, 1954 in Johnson City, NY to Gordon and Ruth (Eccleston) Nichols. He was valedictorian and yearbook photographer 'The Flash' at Chenango Valley Junior-Senior High School and graduated cum laude from University of Rochester. While his degree was in chemistry, he picked up his roommate's computer science textbook one day, and that set the course for his life's work as a respected computer programmer and consultant. He and wife, Nancy, raised four children, where he filled the house with piano music and puns, and provided computer mechanics lessons at the dinner table. On family vacations you could count on him to play a game of frisbee, to learn a new card game, or just take a walk. In mid-life, Wayne resurrected his love of trains and model railroads and discovered a love of smoothies. In everything, Wayne was practical, dedicated, giving, and caring. He was a faithful member of Faith Temple church, and volunteered as a teacher, an elder, a part of the music ministry, and a leader in the children's program. Outside of church, he would often step up when leadership was needed, like in his 20+ years as president of the Suburban Church Bowling League (where his humor shone in the family team name, Spare Change). Even Alzheimer's couldn't slow down the Punmaster--when he got a new car with additional safety features needed for his new phase of life, he named it his Alz-mobile. Wayne passed away on March 11, 2019 and was preceded in death by his father, Gordon, and his sister, Nancy. He is survived by his wife Nancy (Nagel), his children, Geoffrey, LindaBeth, Michelle (Ramos), and Laura, his mother Ruth, sister Norma, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Calling hours are March 17, 2019 from 2-5 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 2636 Ridgeway Ave in Rochester, NY. A Funeral Service will be held on March 18, 2019 at Faith Temple, 1876 Elmwood Avenue in Brighton, NY at 10:30 AM. Interment to take place following the Funeral Service at North Chili Rural Cemetery, 4330 Buffalo Road.
