Foos, William G. (Wilbur)
Rochester: Died August 5, 2007 of cancer at St. Ann's Nursing Home. He was 94 years of age. Predeceased by son Gerard.
William was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Anne's Church, where he ushered for many years. He was a member of the Nocturnal Admiration Society at St. Boniface Church. In his youth, he studied to become a Franciscan Priest, but after a few years, illness prevented completion.
William was a graduate of St. Francis X School on Bay Street and graduate of Thomas Edison High School. He graduated from St. John's College at Graymoor, Garrison, NY. He also attended Catholic University in Washington, DC for 3 years.
William was a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. He worked for Hedges Memorial Chapel and Thomas Trott Funeral Home. William served as Supervisor of Mt. Hope Cemetery from June 1954 to April 1976. After retirement he was an ardent student of genealogy and wrote a family history of both his and his wife's family.
William is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Beckwith), son Jim (Joyce), grandchildren Mark (Shannan) and Ken; Gerard's daughters Michele (great-granddaughter Ella) and Kathryn; son William H. (Peggy), grandchildren Matthew and Jamie Beth; daughter Rita Magri, grandchildren Alphonso, Joseph and Francesca; daughter Mary (Glen) Adams, grandchildren Bryan, Gary, Richard, David and Robert; and son Lawrence (Paula).
There will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Funeral Mass on Saturday, August 11th at 10 AM at St. Anne's Church at the corner of Mt. Hope and Brighton Park. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
