William Rogers

November 17, 1928 — April 6, 2020

William Rogers, 91, passed away on Monday April 6, 2020. He was born in Pontiac, MI on
November 17, 1928 to Carrie Belle (Compton) and Russell H. Rogers. He enlisted in the US
Army in 1948 and served 4 years in Japan and Korea. He received an Occupation Medal,
Presidential Unit Citation, and Korean service medal with five bronze service stars. Upon his
return from Korea he met and married Edwina E. Curtis. Together they had three children:
Debra, David and Mary.
Despite his lack of formal education, Bill was very bright and ambitious. He moved his young
family many times as he worked up the ladder in printing and later moved into sales.
He met his great love Eleanor Schraffenberger and married her on 7/11/70. Eleanor introduced
Bill to skiing which became a passion for him. Bill was a great teacher and loved introducing
skiing to his children. Bill and Eleanor greatly enjoyed taking family trips to Canada, Utah,
Wyoming and Idaho. Bill enjoyed fishing and taking day trips for picnics in the Adirondacks. Bill
always had a shop in the basement and enjoyed tuning, waxing and sharpening the edges of
his skis. Later in life he became an avid builder and flyer of RC model planes. He often would
say with a laugh "it was a terminal hobby he built them in the winter and crashed them in the
summer". He also enjoyed flying kites and had quite a collection.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 49 1/2 years Eleanor Rogers, children Debra, David and
Mary Rogers. Grandchildren Jaime (Anthony) Franklin, Blake Rogers, Delia and Granya Boyd.
And his first great grandchild Evelyn Rose Franklin. Brother-in-law Harold (Laurie)
Schraffenberger. Nieces Vicky Stritch, Nancy (John) Evanowsky, Lisa Norris, Linda (Bush)
Bishop, MaryBeth (Rob) Knowlton, Patty (Dave) Jones, as well as several great nieces and
nephews.
